Program Structure

Teams:

EYBB will consist of boys basketball teams at the third through eighth grade level.  EYBB will sponsor as many teams as necessary for grades 3-8.  In 3rd, and 4th grade, teams will be split as equal as possible.  In grades 5, 6, 7 & 8, teams will be divided into an “A” and “B” team format as determined by the coaching staff under the direction of the head boys basketball coach.  At the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade level players are required to play in the DCE Community Services League and then are eligible to play travel basketball after those league games are completed.

Rosters:

Team rosters will consist of approximately 10 players – the exact total will be at the discretion of the coach, with approval from the EYBB Board.  Tryouts will be held each year as needed, with the players chosen by the high school staff and EYBB board members. New players will be evaluated and placed on appropriate teams.  Middle School coaches will assist in the selection of the seventh and eighth grade teams. Players may only participate at their grade level, even though younger players might be capable of competing at a higher level.  This is done with the welfare of the players in mind, since competition at this level is as much a social as an athletic experience.

Commitment:

There will be one or two practices scheduled per week on average. Players are expected to attend all practices. If a player has a legitimate reason for missing practice, he must let his coach know prior to that practice.

Teams will play in anywhere from 4 to 8 tournaments depending on grade and availability. These tournaments are on weekends and often consist of 3 to 6 games over the weekend. Players are expected to provide their own transportation to and from these games.

There will be a fee to participate in the league to cover the cost of tournaments, gym use and uniforms.  The fee will be set by the EYBB board and will be collected upon registration prior to the start of the season.  Players and parents will also be expected to assist in fundraising events such as the Kickoff Party and EYBB tournament.

Grade Level Representatives:

EYBB has Grade Level Reps (parents) who assist with the following:

1. Collecting registration forms, concussion forms, sportsmanship contracts, fees

2. Planning and delegating duties as needed to grade level parents.
3. Communication with grade level members.
4. Attending EYBB meetings to assist with special events such as the Kickoff Party or the EYBB Tournament.
5. Serving as a contact person for specific grade level and presenting issues to EYBB Board.
